Erik ten Hag responds to ‘Aaron Wan-Bissaka for player of the season’ call
Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been the team’s most improved player in 2023.
He appears to have won the starting right-back spot from Diogo Dalot, who in the first half of the season was one of Manchester United’s best players.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has bounced back from the injury troubles which hampered his initial progress under Erik ten Hag.
It is looking likely that the full-back will be staying put, with the MEN reporting United’s interest in signing a new righ-back is becoming less of a priority.
Ten Hag on Wan-Bissaka
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been so good that MUTV pundit Ben Thornley told MUTV that he would pick the defender as his ‘player of the season’ due to the way he has bounced back.
It had looked in December that Wan-Bissaka could even be shipped out in the January transfer window, before completely turning around his fortunes.
Erik ten Hag was asked about this suggestion and spoke highly of the defender and the way other players in the squad have improved.
He said: “He has improved a lot, as many players have improved during the season. That’s one of the jobs for a manager and the coaching staff, to get that done [improve players] and we are really happy with it, that players are developing.
“Always the team spirit is the base and if players understand that, if they can set their egos aside, then you will see that the team develops and progresses.
“And then within the team’s progress, individuals make a lot of progress and Aaron is definitely one of them.”
Wan-Bissaka is in with a strong chance of starting for Manchester United in the upcoming FA Cup final. He is probably the defender United fans have the most defensive faith in.
He won’t win the player of the season award, other players have put in more complete campaigns, but just for him to be mentioned, is amazing considering where he was.
