Erik ten Hag insists Jadon Sancho is improving at Manchester United

Jadon Sancho has had a slow season at Manchester United, however Erik ten Hag believes he is showing signs of improvement.

In the second part of his pre match press conference, ten Hag was asked about Sancho’s form, and if he is struggling.

Ten Hag insisted, “But I think he’s improving. If you see his performances, he had some good performances against Wolves, against Spurs.”

Sancho has featured regularly during the recent run of top performances by the club. He also scored a wonderful goal against Spurs to give United the lead at the time.

However the boss added that he expects this to be merely the base for better performances to be built on.

“Yeah, he’s doing well. So, in this moment, he has a good base, and now he has to keep improving.”

United’s £73m man hasn’t recaptured the form he showed at Borussia Dortmund since arriving at Old Trafford. The English international has shown glimpses though and needs to kick on and show himself consistently in order to save his United career.

Jadon Sancho’s season so far

Sancho seemed to start the season in great form scoring two goals in his first five games. Theses included a cold finish against Liverpool and also his cooly taken goal against Leicester.

However following the embarrassing 6-3 loss against Manchester City, Sancho struggled to continue making an impact.

He then didn’t feature from the 22nd of October right through until the 1st of February. Ten Hag had given the 23-year-old a leave of absence for mental and physical reason.

Sancho has scored six goals and assisted two this season in 37 appearances, but a majority have come from the bench.

The winger will be feeling the pressure, with Alejandro Garnacho‘s return leading to instant impact. The 18-year-old signed a new five year contract recently with rumours swirling that the Argentine is set to be given the prestigious number seven shirt next season.

This likely means he is ahead of Sancho in the pecking order on the left wing. This meaning Sancho will have to seriously improve to win his place back from the electric teenager.
