Women’s cricket is at an all-time high in Yorkshire after Headingley broke attendance records at Sunday’s England v Pakistan Vitality IT20.
Ticket sales of more than 10,000 for the England v Pakistan Vitality IT20 is the highest ever for a women’s match at Headingley Cricket Ground, yesterday (Sunday, 19 May 2024).
As part of the women in sport celebration Yorkshire also hosted its first Women and Girls’ Cricket Conference on the day and invited former players, with a number of the women also representing England, staying on for the match.

Stephen Vaughan, Chief Executive Officer for Yorkshire County Cricket Club, said the game continues to put Yorkshire on the map as a focal point for women’s cricket in the country.
He said: “The crowd and the atmosphere around the stadium was awesome.
“You could feel it walking around the ground. It was a really great crowd, with people from all communities, families and children, and lots of smiling faces.
“I hope the girls watching from the stands on Sunday will be inspired to go on to pick up a bat and ball if they haven’t already and go on to play cricket, either recreationally or at a higher level potentially enjoying rewarding careers in the sport.
“The rapid rise of women’s cricket both on the international and domestic fronts is very exciting – and here in Yorkshire we are proud to support this, especially as we have the highest amount of women and girls playing cricket in the country.
“We congratulate England’s women on yesterday’s strong performance and look forward to giving the men’s side a warm welcome back to Yorkshire on Wednesday.”

England Women will return to Leeds in 2025 but there is lots more women’s cricket at Headingley this summer, including the Northern Diamonds and Yorkshire Vikings T20 double header on Sunday 9 June.
While The Hundred will return to Headingley at the end of July with four double-header match days and will see some of the biggest stars in the men’s and women’s game.
