Empoli vs. Roma: Lineups & Game Thread

If you went back through every piece we’ve written this season, you’d be bludgeoned over the head with the phrase ‘top-four’; the exclusive club that gives Italian clubs an automatic entry into the Champions League, though it remains elusive for Roma. While that club expanded its ranks by one—thanks in large part to Roma’s performance in Europe—the Giallorossi remain on the outside looking in.

While they were in the hunt until the season’s final weeks, the Giallorossi came up short against Bologna, Juventus, and Atalanta, three of their direct competitors for Serie A’s final CL places. However, thanks to Atalanta hoisting the Europa League title last week, Roma entered Matchday 38 with a slim shot at backdooring their way into the CL, provided Atalanta finished the season in fifth place. Unfortunately, as we write this, Atalanta is dominating Torino and will likely finish the season in 4th place, relegating Roma back to the Europa League once more.

So, I suppose we’ll just enjoy today’s match for the sake of it!
