Premier League clubs wrapped up their transfer business on August 30 as a flurry of deals went through as late as 1am on September 1. But there remains an opportunity for some players at Manchester United and Chelsea to leave after being frozen out.

While most European nations collectively agreed to set their summer transfer window at the end of August or early September, some nations scattered across the world extended theirs way into September to offer a potential escape route.

Saudi Arabian clubs were able to sign players until September 2, Qatar clubs can still register new players until September 9 and Turkish clubs are open for business until the 13th.

With players still able to secure moves away from England, Express Sport looks at eight potential departures this week.

Casemiro

It looks almost a certainty that Manchester United will look set to axe Casemiro in the coming months, providing he doesn’t join another club before then.

The chance to join a Saudi Pro League club has already expired, with their transfer window closing on September 2. That somewhat limits the number of clubs that have the financial power to attract the Brazilian to their club.

But the Turkish giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahce can never be counted out in that respect, as Istanbul’s two biggest clubs have proved they can attract star names by offering high salaries.

Casemiro is believed to earn around £350,000 a week at Old Trafford and has two years left on his contract. But after his nightmare performance against Liverpool, the Red Devils may be willing to do what is necessary to offload him – even if that means subsidising his wages.

Kieran Trippier

It is clear the former England international’s future lies away from St. James’ Park. However, he is yet to secure a deal with another club after proposed switches to Everton and West Ham fell through.

The 33-year-old has only made two substitute appearances for the Magpies this season and he is set to depart, with Newcastle considering a mutual termination of his contract.

That would give Trippier the green light to seal a switch to Turkey, with reports suggesting newly-promoted Eyupspor are leading the race. Fenerbahce have also registered their interest in Trippier, according to HITC, although reports indicate their top-flight rivals have agreed personal terms ahead of a switch.

Ben Chilwell

The England international has emerged as a target for Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce and Chelsea could be open to letting him head to Turkey on a temporary deal.

The Turkish Super Lig outfit sold Ferdi Kadioglu to Brighton and need a quality replacement, while Chilwell faces being frozen out after he was left out of the 25-man Premier League squad. Brentford enquired about signing the former Leicester left-back on deadline day, but ran out of time to negotiate a deal with their London neighbours.

Chilwell’s £200,000-a-week wages could prove to be a stumbling block, although Chelsea may be willing to compromise by splitting the wage cost in order to offload the out-of-favour defender.

Manchester United FC v Liverpool FC - Premier League

Antony

Potentially following Casemiro out of the Old Trafford exit door is £85million flop Antony, who will surely go down as one of United’s worst signings in their history.

The Brazilian winger has scored five goals in 55 Premier League appearances and struggled to offer anything like the attacking influence he had displayed with former club Ajax.

United would be open to letting the 24-year-old leave, even though Antony is keen to fight for his future at the club. But with Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo both ahead of him in the pecking order, he could welcome the chance to leave for a Turkish or Qatari club if an offer arrives.

Christian Eriksen

Another United man out in the cold, Eriksen might prefer to wait until January or next summer to assess his options when his contract expires.

The Dane was already a backup option under Erik ten Hag and he has featured for just four minutes in the Premier League this season. Manuel Ugarte’s £50m arrival from Paris Saint-Germain is unlikely to help in that respect.

The playmaker, 33, turned down moves to MLS and Saudi Arabian clubs in the summer, which would suggest he is ready to stay in Manchester for now. But a late move cannot be ruled out if United decide to terminate his deal early.

Scotland v Switzerland: Group A - UEFA EURO 2024

Kieran Tierney

A forgotten man at Arsenal these days, Tierney failed to secure a permanent move away from the Emirates Stadium after his loan spell with Real Sociedad.

It leaves the 27-year-old somewhat limited in his options to decide his next move, although he could feasibly follow the likes of Chilwell and Trippier in taking on a new challenge in Turkey.

The Gunners have already signed Riccardo Calafiori as a new left-back option to join Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior, which signals that Tierney’s days in north London are numbered.

Axel Disasi

Chelsea thought they had pulled off a coup when they signed Disasi from Monaco for £38m in the summer of 2023. But the move hasn’t gone to plan for the 26-year-old, even if he has featured regularly.

The centre-back scored on his debut under Mauricio Pochettino last season, but 12 months later, he was left on the bench by Enzo Maresca as the club tried to flog him for potential suitors after a mixed season. Newcastle are the only team to have registered their interest so far, but the closure of the transfer window means Disasi will have to look elsewhere.

If there was a glimmer of hope for Disasi, it’s that Malo Gusto has suffered a thigh injury which could rule him out for at least a couple of weeks. That could force Maresca to use the Frenchman more than just a deputy in the coming games before a January sale.

Miguel Almiron

There has been long-standing interest from Saudi Arabia in signing Paraguay international Almiron, who has dropped down the pecking order under Eddie Howe.

Al-Shabab agreed a fee with the Magpies in January before the winger turned down the move. But the 30-year-old may now accept his future lies away from St James’ Park.

Newcastle’s demands for a £20m fee would likely make it difficult for teams from Qatar to afford him, as they do not possess the same financial power as Saudi Arabia. However, a loan deal including an obligation to buy could appeal as the Magpies continue to navigate through the challenges of PSR.
