Gianluca Di Marzio has given an update regarding AC Milan’s pursuit of a new head coach, suggesting that recent developments could shuffle the list of targets once again.
Speaking in the Sky studios before the Torino-Milan game (via MilanNews), Milan have not yet got to the point of reaching an agreement with any head coach, but Sergio Conceiçao has been cross off the list for three or four days now.
At present Paulo Fonseca is the name that is the frontrunner even if Marseille have made him their number one target. The Lille boss continues to ask for time and is more directed towards joining Milan than Marseille.
However, Di Marzio also adds that ‘several things are happening’ with regards to European coaches, which ‘could open up new scenarios’ and ‘bring back into the running coaches who until a few days ago seemed impossible to get’.
For example, Roberto De Zerbi has decided to leave Brighton and therefore there is ‘no longer the clause to pay to release him’. Thomas Tuchel said yesterday that it was his last conference with Bayern Munich and so now he is free too. Xavi’s situation at Barcelona needs to be understood.
Now, we ‘need to understand how convinced Milan are about Fonseca’ as per the journalist, and how tempted they are by other profiles.
