Kevin De Bruyne can sign a pre-agreement with a foreign side in January
David Beckham’s Inter Miami has reportedly set their sights on Kevin De Bruyne as their top transfer target. The MLS team are increasingly optimistic about securing the Manchester City superstar next summer.
De Bruyne’s current contract with City expires in June, and if he hasn’t agreed to a new deal with Pep Guardiola’s squad by then, Inter Miami bosses plan to initiate discussions. Beckham recognises that attracting a player of De Bruyne’s stature would be a significant victory for both Inter Miami and the MLS.
Last summer, De Bruyne contemplated leaving City due to interest from several Saudi Arabian clubs but decided to stay put to avoid disrupting his young family. However, it’s believed that the prospect of living in the United States appeals to De Bruyne and his wife Michele Lacroix, according to the Star.
The midfielder, who turns 34 next June, is open to exploring new opportunities before retiring. If De Bruyne finalises a move to Beckham’s team ahead of the inaugural FIFA World Club Cup next summer, which includes City and Chelsea, he could end up playing against his current club.
Despite a season marred by injuries, De Bruyne delivered a standout performance in Wednesday’s 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, marking his first start since September and helping City break their seven-game losing streak.
Rumours have been swirling that De Bruyne and Guardiola are at odds. Earlier this week, Guardiola had to defend his relationship with De Bruyne, stating that his lack of game time was due to fitness concerns, not a personal rift.
