Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken about United’s struggles
Cristiano Ronaldo has told Erik ten Hag that he must listen to his assistant manager Ruud Van Nistelrooy if he is to succeed at Manchester United.
The Portugal international did not see eye to eye with the Dutch boss during his return stint at Old Trafford, leading to his contract with the Red Devils being terminated in November 2022. He has since joined Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr.
United have won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup since the departure of Ronaldo, but their performances have been less than convincing and Ten Hag was heavily tipped to be sacked ahead of this season.
The higher powers at United opted to retain faith in the ex-Ajax boss instead, though a slow start to the season has led to questions already being raised about the decision not to bring in a new manager.
Speaking to FIVE, Ronaldo believes that Ten Hag would be able to turn the tide at the Theatre of Dreams if he is willing to take on the advice of Van Nistelrooy due to his successful past at the club.
The ex-Real Madrid star explained: “If Ten Hag listens to Ruud, maybe he can [help himself]. I think it can help a lot because he knows the club and the club should listen to the guys who were there.

Erik ten Hag’s side have endured a tough start to the season
“You [Rio Ferdinand], Roy Keane or Paul Scholes or Gary Neville, whatever, Sir Alex Ferguson. You cannot rebuild a club without knowledge. Not guys who work in the office. They understand.
“The people who understand football are the people who were there in the dressing room. They know how to deal with the players. It’s the people who understand these things.

“So I believe that Ruud is going to help, because he was inside the club. He knows the club. He knows the fans. If the coach listens to him, I think they can improve the club a little bit.”
United splashed the cash over the summer in the hope of raising the overall quality of the squad, and Ten Hag will need his new signings to hit the ground running this month to aid their revival. Deadline day arrival Manuel Ugarte will be hoping to prove his worth over the weekend against Southampton following his arrival from Paris Saint-Germain, with Casemiro enduring a torrid run of form.
