Man United earned their spot in the Community Shield after lifting the FA Cup against rivals City.
Wembley Stadium will play host to a repeat of last season’s FA Cup final this afternoon when Manchester City take on rivals Manchester United in the Community Shield.
Both sides have been busy in the off-season, with United having splashed close to £100million on fresh talent so far.
Joshua Zirkzee penned a £36.5m move from Bologna, while Leny Yoro is currently the Red Devils’ most expensive deal of the summer, having arrived from Lille for close to £60m.
Unfortunately for the teenage sensation, Yoro won’t be in action against City this weekend, after the defender picked up an injury during United’s pre-season tour of the States.
On the opposite side of the Manchester divide, City fans could get a first glimpse of their new arrival, with Savinho expected to be involved for the Blues.
Putting pen to paper as part of a £30m move, the Brazilian is the only player to have arrived at the club so far this summer.
That isn’t to say he’ll be the last, with City rumoured to be eyeing up several targets ahead of deadline day later this month.
But any hopes of a transfer kitty boost on the back of Saturday’s match have been slashed, given the prize pot on offer to the victor.
How much does the Community Shield winner earn?
Man City won their fourth straight Premier League title last season.
Arsenal lifted the Community Shield last season.
The main prize on offer to teams competing in the traditional curtain raiser is the trophy itself, with the main financial focus on raising money for associated community projects.
Official figures for this year’s edition aren’t yet known, but funds for the fixture are mainly raised by ticket sales, food and drink vendors and other miscellaneous costs.
It was reported in 2019 that a pot of £1.25m was split between the two competing teams, the majority of which was funded by the competition’s sponsor, McDonalds.
