Chelsea should take a look at £25.5m goal machine before he heads to Saudi Arabia

There are reports today that Fulham have received a bid of £25.5m from Saudi Arabia for Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Al Hilal want the Serbian striker, and he seems keen to go, according to this Sky report.

It begs the question – why aren’t Chelsea interested?

We’ve desperately struggled to find a goalscorer, and while nobody thinks Mitrovic is suddenly going to become the Brazilian Ronaldo if he comes to Stamford Bridge, he would guarantee us some goals and provide a great stopgap while we try to find the new Erling Haaland or Karim Benzema.

Think of how much better off we would have been had we bought him instead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last year – or instead of Romelu Lukaku the year before.

Instead of taking the unglamourous option we went big, and have been stung. We aren’t the first to suggest it – former Blue Tony Cascarino said the same back in January of this year.

In players like Nicolas Jackson, David Datro Fofana and Armando Broja we have some potentially brilliant forwards, but they could need 3 or 4 or even more years to reach their peak. In Mitrovic, we have a great option to keep the team firing in the meantime.

If one of those youngsters starts excelling, then Mitro becomes a really dangerous number 9 option off the bench. Perhaps we’ve waited a couple of years too long, but the affordable answer to our scoring problems was staring us in the face.
