Chelsea now readying bid to beat Liverpool to £34m transfer target

Chelsea are reportedly readying a bid to sign Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga, with Liverpool heavily linked with a move for the Spanish youngster.
According to the Guardian, the Blues plan to rival the Anfield side and FC Barcelona for the La Liga talent, who has a £34m release clause in his contract. And Chelsea could soon look to activate this option with Liverpool also circling Veiga.
The 21-year-old enjoyed an incredible year with the Galician club, with Veiga bagging 11 goals and four assists as well as establishing himself as one of the most exciting midfield talents in all of Europe. And Liverpool have long been linked with a move for the prospect, as per the report.
However, Chelsea could now pose a real threat for the Reds this summer with this latest update, with Veiga potentially an option for Mauricio Pochettino to replace the likes of N’Golo Kante and Matteo Kovacic. And Liverpool might struggle to beat the west London side in this transfer battle.
Indeed, the Blues are ready to spend big on fees and wages to help bolster their squad after their dismal season last time out, and with Veiga one of the best midfield prospects in Europe, Chelsea could throw the book at the Spaniard to lure him to Stamford Bridge despite interest from Liverpool.
Liverpool might have to throw in the towel over Veiga with Chelsea looming
Veiga is one of many midfielders Liverpool have been linked with this summer, and whilst the 21-year-old offers something very different to other targets in terms of his goalscoring output, interest from Chelsea could result in the Reds throwing in the towel.
As we know, Chelsea stop at nothing to sign a player they want in their ranks, and whilst Veiga has a set release clause, the Blues could dwarf Liverpool in what they offer the midfielder in terms of wages, something that the Anfield side could struggle to match.
