The door has shut on another chaotic summer transfer window at Chelsea, and for all their work in bringing in new players may well be ruing a signing that got away.

However, while many fans have been lamenting the club’s failure to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, it’s the form of a lesser hailed forward that will have Enzo Maresca and Todd Boehly stewing.

The saga over Chelsea and Osimhen went deep into deadline day, with the two clubs eventually scrapping negotiations after failing to agree terms.

Instead, the 25-year-old is set to move to Turkish side Galatasaray on loan, a move widely viewed as underwhelming given he’s been touted to land in the Premier League.

In the meantime, another player previously linked with Chelsea, Jhon Duran, has started the season on fire for Aston Villa. Twice now, the Colombian forward has come off the bench to score pivotal goals, on target in the 2-1 wins over both West Ham and Leicester City.

The player now has seven club goals in 38 top flight games for the club, with the majority of his appearances coming from the bench. Indeed, only golden boot winner Erling Harland has a better minutes per goal ratio in the history go the Premier League.

The Norwegian averages a goal every 80 minutes, as opposed to Duran’s 95.7 minutes. That’s a better rating than Sergio Aguero (107.9 minutes) and another icon in Thierry Henry (121.8).

Sky has slashed the price of its Sky Sports, Sky Stream, Sky TV and Netflix bundle in an unbeatable new deal that saves £216 and includes 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.

With Ultra HD included at no extra cost, football fans can enjoy the 2024/25 season with crystal clear picture quality.

In the summer however, Duran appeared to be leaving Villa Park. The 20-year-old moved to the club from Chicago Fire three years ago, and has made no secret of his frustration at failing to nail down a regular first team place.

And in January, he dropped a major hint that he was prepared to move to Stamford Bridge if an offer came in, having been pressed on links to Chelsea and AC Milan. West Ham have also since reportedly expressed interest in a deal.

“I am not aware of interest from AC Milan or Chelsea. They are giant clubs and it would be a pleasure, but I have no knowledge of anything,” he told Win Sports TV. “As a child, you dream of playing there.”

In the meantime, Chelsea have got their season off to a difficult start, with just four points from their opening three games. Despite a hat-trick from Noni Madueke in the 6-2 win over Wolves, and the continued form of Cole Palmer, the jury remains out on the majority of their forward options.

Nicolas Jackson has been erratic in front of goal since joining last season, while Christopher Nkunku has made just 19 club appearances in 15 months after being plagued by injury problems.

The likes of Romelu Lukaku and Angelo have also left the club in permanent deals, while Armando Broja has joined Everton on loan.
