Chelsea FC Injuries, Coaching, And The Impact On The 2022/23 Season
The 2022/23 Season has been one of the nightmare seasons for the Chelsea FC team. It is one of their worst seasons in many years as they have failed to qualify for the prestigious Champions League, where they were champions in 2012 and 2021.
Chelsea’s poor season began with the exit of Thomas Tuchel, who was axed by the new owners. The owners noted that they had a long-term plan for the club, and Tuchel wasn’t part of the plans. In his place, the team hired the Briton manager Graham Potter who had shown the best form at Brighton.
Potter’s entry into the Chelsea team was viewed as a change that was going to turn things around and keep the blues shining. However, Potter didn’t live up to his dream as Chelsea kept losing game after another leading to his dismissal.
New Attempt to Change Results
Chelsea owners were not in a hurry to appoint a new manager as they entered into an agreement to have Lampard as a caretaker coach until the end of the season. Fans were eager to see a change under Lampard, who has previous experience with the blues.
Lampard has not yet turned things around, and the team is still in poor form. Lampard so far has one win against Bournemouth Fc. In their recent match, the team lost 1-0 against the champions Manchester City.
Despite bringing in new players like Mykhailo Mydryk, Enzo Fernandez, Noni Madueke, and Benoit Badiashile, things have not changed at the Bridge.
Chelsea Injuries Woes and the Negative Impact
Chelsea FC has had most of the first-team players on the injury list. Initially, their goalkeeper Edouard Mendy got an injury prompting Graham Potter to use Kepa as the first choice. The skipper produced excellent saves but could not block the opponent from scoring.
N’golo Kante, the midfielder, missed almost half of the season’s games due to injuries. The impact heavily affected the Chelsea midfield. However, the team acquired the services of Denis Zakaria to cover for Kante.
Thiago Silva, who has been a game-changer for the Chelsea defense, also suffered an injury that kept him out of play for six weeks. The injury weakened the defense leading to Chelsea conceding more goals.
Other key players like Kovaci and Ben Chiwel also suffered injuries adding to Chelsea’s Injury problems in the 2022/23 season.
Frank Lampard, despite the poor performance, still believes Chelsea will turn around in the coming season.
Mauricio Pochettino To Lead Chelsea in the 2023/2024 Season
Argentina soccer manager Mauricio Pochettino is set to take over Chelsea in the 2023/24 season. This is after a lengthy search for Potter’s replacement.
Mauricio Pochettino comes to the Premier League with great experience after leading Tottenham to the Champions League final as well as the league runner-up in the 2016–17 season. The manager will take over from Frank Lampard as the new season starts.
Pochettino is expected to turn things around after his tough stand on how he wants the square to look like in the coming season.
