Chelsea are reportedly in discussions with Newcastle over a swap deal for Alexander Isak which could see a ‘key player’ move to St James’ Park. The Blues have wasted no time in strengthening their squad this summer, with Todd Boehly showing little sign of deviating from his big-spending habits.

They have been widely tipped to sign a new striker, with Enzo Maresca said to be keen on improving his options at the top of the pitch. Isak has already been linked with a potential move to Chelsea, who could seemingly include one of their own players in an attempt to sweeten the deal.

According to The Guardian, the possibility of a swap deal involving Nicolas Jackson has been discussed by Chelsea chiefs. Jackson only joined the Blues last summer and scored 14 league goals in his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge, with four of those coming in his last six appearances.

The Senegal international is tied down to Chelsea until the summer of 2031 but there is a chance he could be on his way to Newcastle after just 12 months. However, it is said that he is ‘unlikely’ to be included in a deal for Isak because he is still thought of as a ‘key player’.

It is said that Chelsea have already contacted Newcastle to express their interest in securing Isak’s signature over the coming days. The Magpies are reportedly under pressure to sell players due to internal concerns about their compliance with Premier League profit and sustainability rules.

Newcastle came close to selling Anthony Gordon to Liverpool earlier this month, with talks progressing to the point that a medical was being prepared. However, they pulled the plug on the proposed deal after it became clear that Jarell Quansah would not be offered in part exchange.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have already confirmed two summer signings and could reportedly make a few more in the not-too-distant future. Tosin Adarabioyo joined the Blues on a free transfer following his decision not to sign a new deal at Fulham, while Omari Kellyman moved from Aston Villa on Saturday.

The west Londoners have also made progress in talks with Boca Juniors over a deal to sign Aaron Anselmino, who is already said to have agreed personal terms. In terms of outgoings, Omari Hutchinson is set to join Ipswich Town with Chelsea due to receive a transfer fee of around £22.5million.
