Celtic response doesn’t miss after media get excited about Rangers statement

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou was asked about the five players announced to be leaving Rangers in his pre-Hibernian media conference and made it clear he couldn’t be less interested.
Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Allan McGregor, Steven Davis and Filip Helander are all on their way out of Ibrox this summer after another season of failure and chasing Celtic. The Ibrox club confirmed the news in a statement earlier today.
That prompted a line of questioning from one reporter about expecting a ‘tougher’ challenge from Rangers next season. Postecoglou looked bemused by the query but didn’t miss with his response.
Ange Postecoglou responds to Rangers question
The Celtic manager said [Celtic YouTube]: “I don’t know why that would even concern me, to be honest. This time last year Rangers were in a Europa League final and a Scottish Cup final. They strengthened after the season, didn’t they?
“Does anyone really care? Like, seriously. We didn’t start favourites my first year, we probably weren’t overwhelming favourites this year, so people will say what they want, mate. Everyone’s got a plan until they get punched in the nose and then you reassess from there.
“When we start next year and the games start everyone will see who is ‘really strong’ and who ‘isn’t strong’ and all that sort of stuff. Right now, league-wise it’s the equivalent of junk time, mate, so we just get on with it.”
I’m not sure what kind of answer was expected here. Postecoglou has made it clear on multiple occasions that he isn’t really interested in talking about other teams and players, their transfers or anything other than what he can control in front of him.
Whatever kind of team Rangers field next season, the manager will have the Bhoys prepared as best as they can be for the challenge in front of him. It’s pointless thinking about it right now. But I suppose creating hype across the city is part of ‘the narrative’ heading into the summer.
