Celtic hope to announce Brendan Rodgers appointment next week as ex-Liverpool and Leicester boss nears return

Celtic are hopeful of announcing the return of Brendan Rodgers as their manager next week.
talkSPORT understands that an agreement is close between the two parties over a surprise comeback with Rodgers previously leaving the Scottish side mid-season in 2019.

Rodgers was sacked by Leicester in April and replaced by Dean Smith, who was unable to guide the Foxes away from Premier League relegation.
It was a sorry end to his FA Cup and Community Shield-winning stint, but Rodgers is now set to return to Celtic where he enjoyed huge success.
The Northern Irishman won two Scottish trebles in two seasons at Celtic Park before departing for Leicester in February of the 2018/19 season.
He will replace Ange Postecoglou, who similarly won a treble last season before leaving the side for Tottenham.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports claim that Rodgers will become the highest-paid manager in the club’s history upon his return.
Many fans were left disappointed by Rodgers’ exit in 2019, but the former Liverpool boss never shut the door on a return.
Speaking after his departure, he said: “That challenge may come in the future and I would have absolutely no hesitation in going back.
“An incredible club. Like everything else in life, it’s just about timing.
“Whether I will be received back or not is a different story but would I go back to Celtic? Absolutely.”
