Bayern Munich player wants summer exit after transfer links to Liverpool

Benjamin Pavard is reportedly ready to leave Bayern Munich this summer, with the news coming after Liverpool were linked with a move for the French international.

According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, the 27-year-old will not extend his contract beyond its current expiration date of 2024 with Pavard already communicating to Bayern that he wants to leave, with top clubs already interested in the versatile defender.

Kicker recently reported that Liverpool are keen on Pavard, with the centre-back an ideal defensive signing for Jurgen Klopp this summer, especially with Trent Alexander-Arnold expected to play a more central role in the Reds system next season.

Pavard is accomplished at both centre-back and right-back, a trait that could make Liverpool eager to sign the French international this summer. Moreover, Bayern’s demands could be reasonable, with the German side landing the defender in 2019 for a reported €35m (£30m).

Alexander-Arnold’s role change was arguably the biggest factor in Liverpool’s late-season push for top-four, and whilst the move was an ingenious one from Klopp, there is now a clear need in the squad to add a versatile defender who can cover the England international if this system remains for the new campaign. Enter Pavard.

The defender is entering the prime of his career, and with the 27-year-old now keen on leaving Bayern and Pavard likely to be open on a move to Anfield, Liverpool could have just found their dream defensive signing for the summer if they can beat the likes of FC Barcelona to the Frenchman’s signature.
