The 2023-24 season was an incredibly disappointing one for Barcelona, but there were some bright sparks. One of those was Fermin Lopez, who had a phenomenal debut campaign with the first team, scoring 11 goals across all competitions despite starting so few matches.

It’s been a dream 12 months for Fermin, and that was amplified further when he was called up to represent Spain at the Olympic Games in Paris. He’s already at Euro 2024 with the senior national team, and this has led to some concerns within Barcelona. However, the player himself is unfazed, as he told Relevo.
“Physically I feel fine. During the year I have worked hard to get to these months in perfect condition. I feel great, and looking forward to playing at the Olympics.”
He also commented on the suggestions of Barcelona’s apprehensiveness, and the comparisons with Pedri’s case from 2021.
“In principle, Barcelona agree with me going, they have not posed any problem. They know that being in the Olympic Games is incredible for any athlete. They have supported me and told me to go.
“Pedri in 2021 is a case that happened, but that doesn’t mean that it will happen to everyone. He told me that it was a brutal experience, and advises me to go and enjoy it.”
Finally, Fermin addressed recent speculation that Manchester United had submitted a €30m offer to sign him this summer, which was swiftly rejected by Barcelona.
“I don’t read the press, I’m not very interested in it. The important thing is that I want to be at Barcelona, and that I only think about Barcelona. Nothing else.”
