Lionel Messi won his eighth Ballon d’Or in 2023.
A total of 10 Premier League stars have been announced on the shortlist to win the 2024 Ballon d’Or. The winner will be crowned at a glitzy ceremony in Paris on Monday, October 28, with French magazine France Football tonight confirming the 30 players in the running for football’s most prestigious individual prize.
Nominees for the Yashin Trophy, awarded to the best goalkeeper of the past year, the Gerd Muller Trophy for the best striker, and Socrates Award – given to the footballer who has undertaken the best humanitarian work – have also been announced.
Furthermore, France Football have named the candidates for the Coach of the Year and and Kopa Trophy, which will be presented to the best under-21 player of 2024.
Manchester City’s quartet of Rodri, Phil Foden, Ruben Dias, and Erling Haaland have all been nominated. Four Arsenal players also make the list in captain Martin Odegaard and team-mates Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, and William Saliba.
Aston Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer are also named. But for the first time since 2003, there is no place on the list for Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.
England star Jude Bellingham is picked after his stellar first season at Real Madrid. Federico Valverde, Toni Kroos, Vinicius Jr, Dani Carvajal, Kylian Mbappe, and Antonio Rudiger all join him from the reigning Champions League holders.
The Manchester City duo of Rodri and Phil Foden have been named.
England captain Harry Kane has also made the cut. The remaining nominations are Lautaro Martinez and Hakan Calhanoglu (Inter Milan), Ademola Lookman (Atalanta), Alejandro Grimaldo (Bayer Leverkusen), Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo (Barcelona), Vitinha (PSG), Florian Wirtz and Xhaka (Bayer Leverkusen), Mats Hummels and Artem Dovbik (Roma), and Nico Williams (Athletic Bilbao).
In further recognition to England’s top flight, Pep Guardiola in one of the six names being considered for the Coach of the Year honour. He’s alongside Xabi Alonso, Carlo Ancelotti, Luis du la Fuente, Gian Piero Gasperini, and Lionel Scaloni.
Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is in the running to succeed Bellingham as the Kopa Trophy winner. He’s joined by United team-mate Alejandro Garnacho, Spain’s Euro 2024 winning duo of Pau Cubarsi and Yamal, Arda Guler, Karim Konate, Joao Neves, Man City’s Savinho, Mathys Tel, and Warren Zaire-Emery.

The Men’s Club of the Year nominations also involves Man City and Real Madrid. They are joined by Borussia Dortmund, Girona, and Bayer Leverkusen.
Villa and Argentina stopper Martinez is also in contention for the best keeper award, along with Diogo Costa, Gianlugi Donnarumma, Gregor Kobel, Andriy Lunin, Mike Maignan, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Unai Simon, Yann Sommer, and Ronwen Williams.
