Everton midfielder Amadou Onana has confirmed that he is hopeful of making the move to a top club soon, amid interest from Arsenal.

The midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to the Gunners previously, and Mikel Arteta’s rebuild this summer could see the Belgium international be the subject of further interest from the Spaniard’s side.

Arsenal are hoping to bring in reinforcements at both ends of the pitch this summer, though the potential departures of Thomas Partey and Emile Smith Rowe could see a midfield rebuild orchestrated as well.

Onana is among those to be eyed by Arsenal, and the ex-Lille star has opened up on his plans for the future whilst preparing to represent Belgium at Euro 2024 this summer. The midfielder is hoping to put himself in the shop window whilst competing at the international tournament, with top clubs set to be in attendance.

He told Het Laatste Nieuws: “At previous tournaments you have seen that the players who did well make the step up to the top clubs. That’s something I strive for.

“I feel like presenting myself to the European top and showing what I have to offer. This European Championship is a stage.

“I want to be a much better player and my goal is to play for an international world club in three years. I also want to have qualified with Belgium for the 2026 World Cup in America in three years. I dream about that. And I will do everything I can to make these dreams come true too.

“I have to and will answer this very professionally: I’m under contract with Everton – and I’ll leave everything else to the media. I’ll just do my best at the European Championships and then we’ll see.”

Everton are expected to offload several stars this summer in the hope of improving their financial situation, having been hit with a points deduction last season for breaching spending rules previously.

Jarrad Branthwaite has been cited as the Toffees’ likeliest departure given the sheer volume of interest in the England international, though Onana is on the shortlist of several top clubs and Arsenal could attempt to strike a cut-price deal with Arteta’s former side to secure the signature of the 22-year-old.
