Arsenal, Tottenham primed to strike after Man City name affordable price for Guardiola outcast

Manchester City have reportedly slapped a €30m price tag on Aymeric Laporte, who has been linked with moves to Arsenal and Tottenham recently.

Pep Guardiola is willing to part ways with the 29-year-old this summer as long as he secures the signature of RB Leipzig star Josko Gvardiol.

So, there is a genuine chance that Arsenal or Tottenham could sign Laporte if they meet Man City’s valuation.

Reports suggest that the Cityzens are ‘set to sign Gvardiol’ agreeing a £86m fee with Leipzig. Therefore, barring any late twists, he will be playing at the Etihad next season.

As a result, it’s likely the Croatia international will slot straight into Guardiola’s starting XI, and Laporte would fall even further down the pecking order than he already is if he were to stay.

Last season, Laporte made just 12 Premier League appearances. This is in stark contrast to 2021/22, when he made 33.

The defender did, admittedly, struggle with injuries last term. But, with Guardiola willing to sell him this summer, it’s clear he isn’t in the manager’s long-term plans.

So, Arsenal and Tottenham could potentially swoop in for Laporte’s signature. But, they face competition.

Juventus are pushing for Laporte

According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Man City will accept an offer of €30m (approx. £25.6m) for Laporte.

As mentioned, both Tottenham and Arsenal hold a genuine interest in the Spain international. So, they could be tempted into making an offer.

However, the report adds that Juventus have Laporte on their ‘list of favourite transfer targets’ and they ‘have a feeling’ they can reach an agreement with Man City.

But, this all depends on whether the Italian giants can finance the deal. Indeed, Juve are currently in financial turmoil and have very limited funds to spend this summer.

So, it isn’t yet clear if they can match the Cityzen’s €30m valuation, which could open the door for Arsenal or Tottenham to swoop in.

Although, it is worth noting that the London rivals are currently pursuing other defensive targets.

For example, Arsenal are very, very close to signing Jurrien Timber, who can play as a right-back or centre-back.

Tottenham, on the other hand, are currently pursuing Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven.

However, given Laporte’s experience in the Premier League and his pedigree for winning trophies, both clubs be tempted into making a move for him.

Therefore, he is definitely a player for Arsenal and Tottenham fans to keep an eye on over the next couple of weeks.
