Leroy Sane has suggested that he would rather stay at Bayern Munich than join Arsenal at the end of the season. The former Manchester City winger is coming to the end of his contract and is yet to put pen to paper on fresh terms.

As things stand, the 28-year-old will be free to enter pre-contract talks with clubs outside Germany from the start of January. However, it seems he would prefer to sign a new deal at Bayern after insisting that he would be happy to stay there.

In an interview with German newspaper BILD, Sane said: “We are in talks. I feel comfortable in Munich. I feel really comfortable. Talks are very good. My focus is currently only on Bayern.”

Asked if he would be interested in returning to the Premier League, he responded: “I follow Premier League football but the attraction for me lies in the club where I can show my best performance, develop and win titles. I have that at Bayern.”

Sane has also been linked with a potential move to Manchester United, with Ruben Amorim reportedly looking to add more quality in the final third. However, his stance on extending his Bayern deal suggests he would not be interested in joining the Red Devils.

It seems clear that Vincent Kompany would be more than happy to keep Sane around for the foreseeable future. The Bayern boss reserved special praise for the winger following his impressive display against Benfica in the Champions League earlier this month.

“Leroy changed the game, you could say that,” said Kompany, who played with Sane at Manchester City before retiring from football and moving into management.

“Leroy did very well after he was subbed on. I’m very happy to have the quality of Leroy Sane and Michael Olise in the same position, not to forget Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry. They have all scored goals and contributed well so far this season.”

Sane has only started twice for Bayern so far this season but has managed to score three goals across all competitions. With talks over a new deal underway, it may only be a matter of time before he commits the next stage of his career to the German giants.
