Arsenal have reportedly sent scouts around Europe this week to watch some of their targets feature in the Champions League.

The Gunners splashed the cash over the summer, signing Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino to provide depth in key areas. David Raya also joined the club permanently along with Neto on loan to shake up the goalkeeping department, with Raheem Sterling joining Arsenal on a temporary basis from Chelsea.

The Emirates Stadium shortlisted numerous other targets in the window but ultimately opted against completely overhauling their ranks with marquee arrivals. However, they may live to regret not bringing in further attacking reinforcements.

Viktor Gyokeres was largely cited as one of Arsenal’s top striker options if they opted to bring in a new No. 9 after his sensational campaign with Sporting, which caught the eye of countless clubs around Europe.

The Sweden international has picked up where he left off this season, scoring nine goals and assisting three in seven appearances. According to HITC, Arsenal representatives were in attendance to watch the 26-year-old in action against Lille on Tuesday night.

Gyokeres opened the scoring at the Estadio Jose Alvalade with an impressive finish after receiving the ball with his back to goal and managing to fend off several challenges before swivelling and getting his shot again.

Sporting are keen to open contract extension talks with Gyokeres as soon as possible with the view of removing his £84million release clause, though it is unclear whether the ex-Coventry star would be willing to entertain a new proposal.

Arsenal also had scouts in attendance for the clash between Club Brugge and Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night, with the latter running out 3-0 victors.

Het Nieuwsblad report that the Gunners’ representatives watched on as Jamie Bynoe-Gittens stole the show by bagging a brace as he helped Nuri Sahin’s side to victory. The winger produced a display which would have put him on the radar of top clubs around Europe, especially after only entering the fray in the 68th minute.

Although the player/s who Arsenal were specifically scouting are not detailed in the report, the Gunners were heavily linked with Bynoe-Gittens last season and they could live to regret not looking to acquire his services over the summer. Especially given that the No. 43 is making immense progress at the Signal Iduna Park, which would see his list of suitors grow as well as his price tag.

The versatile forward has scored two goals in three Bundesliga appearances so far this season and he is quickly putting himself in the frame to be Dortmund’s next big-money sale.
