Martin Odegaard hobbled off injured during Norway’s Nations League tie with Austria.
Martin Odegaard could be out of action for three weeks after suffering an injury on international duty, but there is at least some positive news for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.
The midfield maestro hobbled off during Norway’s Nations League clash against Austria on Monday, with suggestions he could be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Pictured boarding a plane back to London while on crutches, Arteta and Gunners fans alike would’ve no doubt been fearing the worst ahead of what could prove a crucial run of games for the Premier League and Champions League hopefuls.
But after an update from the Norwegian camp, things might not be as bad as they first appeared.
Speaking to VG Sporten, Norway’s team doctor said Odegaard has “probably” not suffered an ankle fracture, but the ex-Real Madrid star could be still out for three weeks with an injury.
Ola Sand commented to the outlet: “Both Stale [Solbakken, Norway manager] and I know that collection hangs in the balance. It is not excluded. But we have to wait and see both what the MRI images show and how quickly he responds to treatment.

Martin Odegaard looked distraught after picking up an injury against Austria.
“Ankle injuries are very painful right away. With Martin, it was extremely painful. He became very worried.
“They are studying the MRI images now, and have sent them on. No violation is suspected. In the event of a fracture, we are talking about being out of action for six weeks plus.
“What we have so far obtained from the MRI examination in London is that there is probably no fracture in the ankle.”
Before confirming Arsenal have taken up the reins and will handle the player’s recovery: “Martin now writes that Arsenal wants to take over all communications after they have taken an MRI and are doing further investigations.”

The injury comes at a nightmare time for Arteta, with Arsenal due to take on rivals Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.
Arteta is already without Declan Rice (suspension) and Mikel Merino (injury), meaning the Gunners will likely be forced into fielding a patched-up midfield.
While Rice will be back after the Spurs contest, Arsenal’s next outing in the Premier League sees them up against Manchester City – the side they’ve finished second to in each of the previous two seasons.
And given the latest injury update from the Norway camp, it looks all but certain Arsenal will be without skipper Odegaard for their Etihad trip in two Sunday’s time.
