Arsenal are reportedly interested in Matheus Cunha
Arsenal are reportedly interested in a deal for Wolves star Matheus Cunha ahead of the January transfer window. The Brazil international has been in terrific form despite Wolves’ poor start to the Premier League season, scoring his 10th goal of the campaign in their shock win over Manchester United.
According to the Telegraph, Arsenal will find a deal for Cunha difficult to complete in January. Wolves’ battle against relegation means they will be desperate to retain the 25-year-old until at least May.
Arsenal may therefore offer some players in a player-exchange deal to ensure Wolves are fully equipped for the remainder of the campaign, while Mikel Arteta lands a key forward target.
Gabriel Jesus
Wolves have a penchant for Portuguese-speaking players and staff, so Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus would fit in seamlessly at Molineux. Cunha has replaced the former Manchester City star at international level and could soon displace him at the Emirates Stadium.
Jesus has just hit some form, scoring five times in a week in cup and Premier League matches against Crystal Palace. He would relish being the main man at Wolves.
Leandro Trossard
Trossard’s inconsistency has been an issue for Arsenal this season. Neither he nor Gabriel Martinelli seem capable of stepping up in Bukayo Saka’s absence.
Offloading the Belgian to make way for Cunha could make some sense. Trossard excelled when he was a key player at Brighton, and he would adopt a similar role at Wolves should he join the Midlands outfit.
Raheem Sterling
Arsenal would need to bring Chelsea in on an agreement to send Sterling to Wolves. The on-loan forward has struggled for game time since his summer switch from west London and although he is carrying an injury at the moment, the exiled England international seems set to remain on the bench.
The Gunners could sort a deal for Sterling to head back to Chelsea before moving straight to Wolves. Shaving a high earner off the wage bill would be beneficial ahead of Cunha’s potential arrival.
Raheem Sterling is desperate to feature more in the second half of the season
Ethan Nwaneri
Sending one of their young stars on loan to Wolves in exchange for Cunha is another option for Arsenal. Nwaneri has enjoyed a breakthrough year with the Gunners but would benefit from more frequent game time further down the Premier League.
However, the 17-year-old could be set for an extended run in Arteta’s team due to Saka’s absence with a hamstring injury.
Myles Lewis-Skelly
The same could be said for Myles Lewis-Skelly, who looks ready for further Premier League involvements. Able to play at left-back and in midfield, the 18-year-old would be a solid addition for Wolves for the remainder of the season.
