Arsenal can sign a Bukayo Saka alternative that Jurgen Klopp loved.
Arsenal have been presented with a golden opportunity to ease the burden on Bukayo Saka and pinch a forward away from Juventus, by sealing a bargain £13million transfer that former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp would love to have made.
The German has an eye for talented forwards, taking Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino to new heights, but he was not content with stopping there and wanted to add Italian star Federico Chiesa to his iconic trident.
Not long after Chiesa had spearheaded his country’s Euro 2020 victory over England, with his campaign including a goal against Spain in their semi-final win at Wembley, Liverpool were reported to have had an eye-watering £86million bid turned down by Juventus.
The Reds had effectively been told that Chiesa was not for sale at any price and would remain with the Old Lady. Turning their attentions elsewhere, Liverpool spent a similar amount of money on Darwin Nunez, though Chiesa’s career has somewhat stagnated.
Injuries and a lack of form have hampered the 26-year-old to the point where transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that he is one of eight players now up for sale at Juventus, following the appointment of new boss Thiago Motta.
Reports in Italy claim he could cost as little as £13m this summer and provide further depth across the Arsenal frontline, somewhat reminiscent of the deal that brought Leandro Trossard to the Emirates, only for the Belgian to become an integral player in the second half of the 2023/24 season.
Federico Chiesa has been put up for sale by Juventus.
Klopp was reportedly a big fan of Chiesa and thought that he could make an impact at Liverpool worthy of paying £86m, but now the Italian could provide some much-needed competition for Saka and Gabriel Martinelli on the wings, and be another alternative to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus up front.
Saka, who once again played long into the summer as a key member of an England side that reached the Euro 2024 final, is one of Arsenal’s star players and losing him through being overworked is a fear that many supporters harbour.
Nearly a year ago, the winger capped his club-record 87th Premier League consecutive appearance only to be brought off with an injury. Saka hobbling off at the end of matches became a frequent sight last season and one that will likely need to be avoided over the next nine months in order to pip Manchester City to the title.
Reiss Nelson could yet depart this summer, leaving Arsenal short on natural replacements when Saka needs a rest, with Juventus waiting for Chiesa to leave the club.
However, the Italian has received interest from Manchester United and Inter Milan in the past, and Arsenal may need to act decisively in order to tempt him to north London.
