Mikel Arteta reportedly hired a team of professional pickpockets to target his Arsenal players
Mikel Arteta reportedly hired a team of professional pickpockets to target his Arsenal players with the aim of teaching them an important lesson. The Spaniard has been known to employ some unusual coaching methods but his latest trick might just be the most surprising of the lot.
At a dinner with his players, Arteta hired a team of pickpockets and tasked them with pinching valuables from members of his first-team squad, according to The Athletic. It is said that several players discovered they were missing phones and wallets after being asked to check their pockets at the end of the meal.
The aim of the exercise was to underline the importance of staying alert at all times, even in situations when his players might feel comfortable letting their guard down. Arteta will be hoping for his innovative methods to have the desired impact, with Arsenal hoping to finally beat Manchester City in next season’s Premier League title race.
