Liverpool boss Arne Slot has confirmed that Alisson Becker is likely to be available for selection against Wolves on Saturday. The Reds goalkeeper has missed the last two games due to a hamstring injury, with Caoimhin Kelleher stepping in between the sticks.

Quizzed on Alisson’s fitness in Friday’s press conference, Slot revealed that he has been training with his team-mates and will challenge Kelleher for a starting spot against Wolves.

“We think he is [ready],” said the Liverpool boss. “He trained yesterday as part of our session with the group and we’re expecting him to do the whole session today. So we think he is available, but of course we have to train today.”

Slot also reserved special praise for Kelleher, who has made no secret of his desire to leave Liverpool in search of regular football over the last few months.

“We’re really happy with Alisson being back but I want to emphasise the fact that we did really well in the two games he wasn’t involved in,” he added. “It’s another example of having two or even three good options in the position in goal.”

The Reds manager also spoke about the futures of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, who are yet to sign new contracts with their current deals expiring at the end of the season.

“You are just trying to find another way of asking me,” he said. “I’m very happy they are in my team at the moment. There are a lot of games to be played this season so I’m really happy I can select them. Let’s see what the future brings.”

Liverpool will be the overwhelming favourites to beat Wolves on Saturday despite being away from home. Gary O’Neil’s side currently sit rock bottom of the Premier League table, having drawn one and lost four of their opening five matches.

Looking ahead to the match, Slot said: “All these players are team players, they always wanted to work hard for the team first. It’s been a privilege to inherit a squad like I have.

“I don’t think [their poor start] represents how Wolves have played. A tough fixture list, Arsenal, Newcastle, Chelsea. More difficult than we have had, for example. We need to take this into account.

“I have seen their games and they deserved more than they got. They will be fine this season. Hopefully not tomorrow.”
