Alexis Mac Allister has played down fears of an injury setback after departing Liverpool’s win at Crystal Palace with a groin complaint.

Mac Allister was substituted for Dominik Szoboszlai at half-time at Selhurst Park on Saturday having been hampered by the issue during the opening 45 minutes.

The midfielder has played down the concerns at a time when a host of Liverpool first team stars have been picking up knocks, sparking theories of a vigorous work load heading into the festive period.

In recent weeks goalkeeper Alisson has suffered with injuries, along with striker Diogo Jota and new recruit Federico Chiesa.

Mac Allister will undergo checks to ascertain the extent of any damage before a final decision is made over whether he should join Argentina for the imminent international break.

Mac Allister is in the squad for their forthcoming World Cup qualifiers in Venezuala and at home to Bolivia.

But the 25-year-old took to social media after the game to allay concerns over his fitness.

“Great win for the team today, these are the moments that make us stronger!” said Mac Allister.

“I felt a slight discomfort during the game, but nothing that will stop me. Now fully focused on what’s ahead.”

The news will come as a relief to Liverpool boss Arne Slot after Alisson Becker suffered what appeared another hamstring injury at Palace.

Alisson is expected to withdraw from the Brazil squad and will have scans on the problem, with the Reds braced to be without the goalkeeper for a significant period.
