Alexander Isak’s long-term Newcastle future is uncertain
Alexander Isak has addressed the rumours about his Newcastle United future amidst chatter about a potential departure from St James’ Park.
Although tied to the club until 2028, there’s not been a shortage of transfer speculation following the team’s failure to bag a European spot last season.
Known to have caught the eye of key Premier League clubs like Arsenal, Isak has still expressed a strong affection for Newcastle.
Manager Eddie Howe remains unfazed by discussions over contract extensions due to the lengthy period remaining on the talented No 14’s contract.
Directly addressing the Arsenal move rumours while with the Sweden squad, Isak stated: “Throughout my career, I have never talked about or really commented on the move rumours during the season.
“There have been many such years where it has been talked about. It doesn’t affect me.
“I am commenting on my situation in Newcastle, and I have never had any problem there. I am fully focused on my task there and that we will have a fantastic season. There are still great opportunities for that. I have no thoughts about anything else.
“The only thing I can say is that a lot of information and rumours often come out. Much of what I read is not true. So that’s about all I can say about the whole thing.”
Newcastle recently secured the future of Anthony Gordon despite rumours of a possible move to Liverpool, just months after Bruno Guimaraes also signed a lucrative new contract.
There is a growing belief within the club that Isak will be the next big name to commit his future to the Magpies.
The 25-year-old Swedish international is currently on duty with his national team, managed by Jon Dahl Tomasson, as they gear up for Nations League matches against Slovakia and Azerbaijan.
However, their preparations have been thrown into disarray due to severe weather conditions in Spain.
The Swedish squad had travelled to Marbella for a training camp but were forced to return to Stockholm prematurely due to heavy rainfall causing chaos following weeks of destructive flooding in parts of Spain.
“I got a little worried. You’ve seen in other cities in Spain how it’s been, so it wasn’t very fun. Hopefully it won’t be too crazy,” Isak said during a press conference on Wednesday.
