AC Milan use Tonali money to bid for 24-year-old who NUFC were ‘obsessed’ with last year

Newcastle United have given AC Milan an injection of cash, in exchange for one of their best players Sandro Tonali.

The Magpies announced the signing of Tonali on Monday, and he landed on Tyneside on Wednesday to get his first glimpse of St James’ Park. He also gave supporters the first opportunity to see him in a black and white shirt, and it is fair to say it suits him!

He is set to meet his teammates next week, as he begins his Newcastle career and looks to prove he was worth the £55million investment.

The 23-year-old is a huge signing for the Magpies, while he leaves a major hole at AC Milan.

They have already brought in Ruben Loftus-Cheek as a midfield replacement, and now they are looking to use the Tonali money to enhance their forward line.

AC Milan make second bid for Christian Pulisic

Interestingly, they are looking to sign a player who Newcastle chased during the previous two transfer windows.

According to the Guardian, AC Milan are trying to sign Christian Pulisic from Chelsea. The report states that they have already had one bid rejected, and it looks like a second will not be enough either.

The Serie A side have proposed a deal worth £18.9million for the 24-year-old, with Chelsea desperate to sell as they clear out an inflated squad.

However, the Guardian state that the Blues want Milan to increase their offer further, with Lyon proposing a deal worth £21.5million. Despite this, Pulisic wants to go to Italy.

Chelsea could be trying to get more out of AC Milan as they know they have just received a huge amount of money for Tonali, but it might be better for them to just cut their losses and get Pulisic off the books.

He is a player who has not hit the heights expected of him at Stamford Bridge, and he was even linked with a move to Newcastle. The American was one of the more exciting targets last summer, and it was even stated that the Magpies were ‘obsessed’ with signing him.

However, a deal could not be reached. The situation remained the same in January 2023 when Newcastle renewed their interest, but now he is no longer a target.

The Magpies probably would be able to finally sign Pulisic this summer, but they have told Chelsea that they are not interested. Now it is effectively their money that could earn him the transfer away from West London that he needs.
