Trent Alexander-Arnold cheekily reminded Manchester United fans of Liverpool’s 3-0 victory as he boarded the team bus to a chorus of boos. Arne Slot’s side registered a dominant win over their arch-rivals on Sunday.

Alexander-Arnold thought he’d got them off the mark from Luis Diaz’s cross within the first 10 minutes. However, an offside in the build-up put a halt to his Steven Gerrard-style kiss-to-the-camera celebration.

But United could only hold off Liverpool for so long, with Diaz netting twice before half-time and Mohamed Salah adding a third after the interval. It was another day to forget for the Red Devils’ faithful.

Post-match, some United supporters waited outside Old Trafford as the victorious Liverpool players emerged. Alexander-Arnold was among the first to head towards the bus back to Merseyside.

A video circulating on social media captured the moment the right-back received a hostile reception, complete with boos and jeers. Unfazed, Alexander-Arnold responded by holding up three fingers – mirroring his on-pitch gesture at full-time.

His actions elicited a chuckle from team-mate Salah, who had been walking ahead but turned back to usher him along. The duo shared a grin as they made their way to the bus, with Alexander-Arnold maintaining eye contact with the disgruntled United fans.

A member of Liverpool’s security detail was quick to step in, ready to act should any trouble arise. Alexander-Arnold didn’t seem bothered though, playing up to the role of provocateur with ease.

It wasn’t the perfect afternoon for him, being taken off early by Slot yet again in what is becoming a recurring theme. Jamie Carragher had spotted the new Reds boss being frustrated at Alexander-Arnold during the game.

Speaking from the commentary box, the Liverpool legend pointed out: “That’s an interesting one, I was looking at the managers beneath on the last attack, and I think it was Trent Alexander-Arnold, tried a flick round the corner with his left foot.

“The frustration, looking down at him – [Slot] turned away in disgust. There the things that he doesn’t want, he wants you to make the extra pass, not risk something. There’s maybe some differences we’ll see between his Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp’s.”
