Arne Slot is not bothered about Manchester United’s hefty summer spending ahead of their clash at Old Trafford. Despite United shelling out a whopping £200million on five new additions to bolster Erik ten Hag’s squad, Liverpool have been more frugal, spending just over £40million on Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardasvili, who remains on loan at Valencia.

Slot is adamant that he is content with his team and has urged supporters not to draw comparisons between the two clubs’ expenditure.

“I don’t look at the outside and I don’t look at other clubs,” he stated.

“I only focus on what we have and the situation we’re in. I’m completely happy with the team we have and it’s no use comparing yourself with other clubs.”

He continued: “The only way we have to compare ourselves is on Sunday and then we’ll see how we level against them.

“Afterwards I will find moments where I say we have to improve and I’ll be happy with a few things. It’s only about us. That’s the only influence I and we have. We don’t look at other clubs and what they’re doing in the window.”

Liverpool’s recent visits to Old Trafford have ended in disappointment, with their quadruple dreams dashed and a near victory in the FA Cup turned into defeat.

They also had to settle for a draw in the league despite dominating United in the first half.

The mood at Old Trafford shifted dramatically when Bruno Fernandes equalised following Jarell Quansah’s misplaced pass in the second half, and Slot has instructed his players to silence the home crowd.

Despite being new to the intensity of English football’s biggest rivalry, Slot is confident his players can handle the pressure.

“I haven’t experienced this game yet, but the players have experienced it many, many times,” the Dutchman stated.

He emphasised the need to prepare them not only tactically, but also for the atmosphere, so as not to let the crowd go wild.

Having witnessed the atmosphere at Ipswich, he expects this game to be even more intense.

Slot praised United’s ability to step up in tough moments, citing their victory over Man City in the FA Cup Final as an example of their quality.

Despite mutual respect between him and Ten Hag, Slot clarified that they are not friends and do not socialise together.

“No friends,” he declared. “Friends is something else.”

“We have a good relationship, but a friend is someone you see often, go out with and dine with.”

“That’s not something we’ve done in the past. We don’t know each other well enough.”
