Manchester United have six days to seal a deal for Manuel Ugarte after Saturday’s defeat of the season against Brighton and Hove Albion offered a reminder of the need for reinforcements. But Paris Saint-Germain aren’t sanctioning the 23-year-old’s exit easily, with negotiations for Erik ten Hag’s top midfield target set to go down to the wire.

Meanwhile, multiple players face uncertain futures at Old Trafford and could still depart before Friday’s 11pm deadline.

Scott McTominay could have made his final appearance for United off the bench in the 2-1 loss at the Amex Stadium amid interest from Napoli.

Victor Lindelof, Hannibal and Christian Eriksen are among the other players in the shop window, as is Jadon Sancho.

The 24-year-old winger has been excluded from both of United’s first two Premier League squads of the campaign after reportedly reaffirming his desire to leave.

However, his most likely destination now appears to be off the cards, leaving his future in serious limbo with time running out.

It’s primed to be a busy few days in M16 in the build-up to Sunday’s crunch clash against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Express Sport provides all the latest Manchester United transfer news LIVE, with regular updates below…

Lindelof deal imminent

The tenure of the big Swede at United appears to be at an end.

The 30-year-old has been told he is able to leave following the summer arrivals of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt, and now it appears the wheels are in motion.

Lindelof’s partner has dropped the biggest hints yet, after publishing a social media post showing the process of moving out with numerous cases of luggage.

Future Palmer move tipped

Cole Palmer may be the jewel in the Chelsea crown these days, but a future move to United has been touted.

Should things go amiss at Stamford Bridge, with their wild free-spending policy and seemingly endless recruitment drive, players will need to find pastures new.

For Palmer, who has a childhood preference of United, the idea of Old Trafford would likely appeal. Pundit Jamie Carragher believes as much.

“If Chelsea have another poor season, we were talking earlier about Manchester United having a real problem on that right wing,” Carragher told The Overlap.

“He [Palmer] is a big Man United fan isn’t he? Would that not be something that United should visit maybe in 12 months if it doesn’t go well? You know what, I think that could happen. Yeah, Cole Palmer to Man United.”

Sterling deal on the cards

With Chelsea’s emerging interest in Jadon Sancho, there now appears a real possibility that Raheem Sterling could yet make a shock late switch to Old Trafford.

Sterling, who has played for both United’s arch rivals in Man City and Liverpool, is surplus to requirements in west London and will not be selected by new boss Enzo Maresca.

According to Di Marzio, one of Sterling or Ben Chilwell – or both – could yet be involved in a swap package to take Sancho to Stamford Bridge before deadline day.

Sancho grew up as a Chelsea fan, and would be open to securing the transfer.

Toney absence explained

Ivan Toney, who is still very much linked with a move to Old Trafford, has been left out of the squad for the Bees’ trip to Liverpool today.

Here’s what manager Thomas Frank had to say about it: ” The status is the same as last week. Things are going on with transfer speculation so the decision is the same.

“He is training well, there is no problem. I’d rather focus on the game and the players that are playing instead of talking about him.”

Man Utd agree McTominay transfer

Manchester United have agreed a deal to send Scott McTominay to Napoli.

The Red Devils will receive £25million for the Scot, 27, and have also agreed a sell-on clause as part of the deal.

McTominay’s exit should clear the way for Manuel Ugarte to join United.

Juventus pushing for Jadon Sancho

In a somewhat surprising development, it appears that Jadon Sancho to Juventus is still on.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Juventus are in constant contact with Manchester United and are working on a loan deal.

Sancho’s £250,000-a-week wages represent a major hurdle, though, and there is work to be done before the summer deadline.

Napoli ‘close’ to Scott McTominay agreement

Napoli are reportedly close to striking an agreement with Manchester United over the £25million transfer of Scott McTominay.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna was still in England yesterday after sealing a deal for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.

The Serie A club are set to swoop for Brighton’s Billy Gilmour as well as McTominay, and both featured in the Premier League clash at the Amex Stadium.

Napoli saw an initial bid worth £21m rejected but look to have boosted their offer to meet United’s asking price.

Antony and Man Utd ‘probably want to part ways’

Joe Cole isn’t convinced Antony will remain settled at Manchester United if he continues as a bench player.

And he believes Erik ten Hag has given up on his £86million signing, with Alejandro Garnacho and Amad leapfrogging him in the wing pecking order.

“Manchester United brought on Antony, who, in all due respect, probably isn’t happy to just play 10 or 15 minutes. He’s an £80m player. He probably wants out the door at United and they probably want him out as well,” Cole said on TNT Sports after the 2-1 defeat at Brighton and Hove Albion.

“You’re bringing him on and in that crucial moment when there’s a ball to be won, a body needs to be put on the line for your team and for your club, he didn’t do it and it cost his team. That’s the difference. If you look at the running the Brighton subs went through, it was fantastic.”

Man Utd ‘accept’ Scott McTominay bid

Manchester United appear to have accepted Napoli’s £21million offer for Scott McTominay, according to reports in Italy.

Naples newspaper Il Mattino, via CalcioNapoli24, claim that the Serie A club have agreed a deal for McTominay.

The 27-year-old midfielder is said to have verbally accepted a four-year contract proposal.

United were thought to be holding out for £25m.

EXCLUSIVE: INEOS transfer concerns emerge

Former England international Chris Waddle has been underwhelmed by Manchester United’s transfer business in INEOS’ first summer in charge of recruitment.

He isn’t convinced Erik ten Hag’s latest signings will spark the improvement required of United this term.

“It’s hard for Manchester United and probably hard for the fans. For many years, they dominated,” Waddle told Express Sport on behalf of NewBettingSites.uk.

“The players they wanted also wanted to go to Man Utd, and it was quite easy for them to buy players. Other teams come into the picture now. Arsenal are a big attraction. Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa – London is a pull for Tottenham too. Players have got three or four options. And it’s not just England – there are options abroad.

“Players are not thinking they have to go to Man Utd anymore. It’s not the first draw for them. There are a lot of clubs that can attract players. Erik ten Hag keeps coming back to his former Ajax players. He’s signed seven former Ajax players at Man Utd. Ten Hag obviously thinks they are good players and knows what they are about.

“But are they players that can get Man Utd challenging for the league or even the top four? They’ve [also] got a few injuries which is obviously a problem. I would say it’s been an average transfer market for Man Utd, not exceptional.

“He’s helped the squad and added numbers. They’ve got some really good players, but it’s not a squad that will be really pushing Manchester City for the title.”

Jadon Sancho transfer ‘complicated’

Jadon Sancho is increasingly unlikely to join Juventus this summer, leaving his Manchester United future in a state of limbo.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Juventus’ pursuit of the 24-year-old winger was complicated by United’s £40million transfer fee demand, while they only wanted a loan deal.

And it’s now emerged that the Serie A side have agreed deals to sign Porto winger Francisco Conceicao and Fiorentina’s Nico Gonzalez.

Sancho now appears set to remain at United beyond the summer transfer deadline unless a surprise suitor emerges.

Manuel Ugarte to Man Utd ‘quite close’

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte is close to completing a switch to Manchester United, according to Fabrizio Romano.

It’s claimed that United are now in the final stages of negotiations with PSG after agreeing personal terms with Ugarte in July.

The 23-year-old is said to be pushing to move to Old Trafford after informing PSG manager Luis Enrique of his desire to leave.

He has been absent from the Ligue 1 giants’ first two matchday squads of the season, and there is an expectation that the deal gets done.

Morning!

Good morning!

Manchester United will be licking their wounds this morning after that last-gasp defeat at Brighton and Hove Albion yesterday…

But with just six days of the summer transfer window remaining, INEOS will be active behind the scenes to bolster Erik ten Hag’s ranks.
