Raheem Sterling’s sorry spell at Chelsea looks like it’s about to get even worse.
Raheem Sterling has been left out of Chelsea’s matchday squad for their mid-week Europa Conference League qualifier against Servette.
It comes after the ex-Manchester City star was absent from Chelsea’s Premier League opener against his former club last weekend.
Unhappy by the decision, Sterling’s entourage were quick to release a statement reading: “Our expectation was that Raheem would be involved in this weekend’s fixture in some capacity. As a camp, we have always had positive dialogue with, and assurance from, Chelsea FC in relation to Raheem’s future at the club, so we look forward to gaining clarity on the situation.”
The forward has been linked to a move away from Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea said to have offered Sterling to both Bayern Munich and Juventus.
Sterling is one of four notable exits for the qualifier, with new signing Tosin Adarabioyo also set to miss out.
Wesley Fofana has also missed out on the squad, despite returning to the Chelsea squad for his first Premier League appearance in over a year last weekend.
Whereas Ben Chilwell, who is reportedly available for transfer this summer, is also missing from Chelsea’s squad list.
Wesley Fofana was also left out of Chelsea’s squad.
When quizzed on Chilwell’s future in west London, new boss Enzo Maresca said: “It’s quite clear, I love the way he is but the problem is that he struggles with us a little bit to find his best position.
“This morning we had 22 players training, and if you ask all of them they will say they want to play against (Manchester) City on Sunday but that is impossible.”
He continued: “When they train every day and do not get any minutes, it is not good for them or for me, I need to make a decision.
“It is probably better to leave and get minutes [elsewhere]. The transfer window is open so we’ll see what happens.”
