Liverpool will have to stump up £34million to prise goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili away from Valencia this summer after being sent a blunt transfer message from the Spanish club’s owner Peter Lim. The Reds are chasing the signature of the 23-year-old, who starred for Georgia at Euro 2024.

Liverpool are on the lookout for a new shot-stopper who can eventually take over from 31-year-old Brazil international Alisson.

But they will be forced to dig deeper into their pockets to secure the services of Mamardashvili.

According to Spanish publication AS, Lim is not willing to negotiate on his £34m asking price and will not sanction a transfer unless the fee is met.

Liverpool want to take Mamardashvili to the Premier League but are reluctant to pay any more than £30m. However, a transfer would be off the table if the Reds refuse to meet the demands.

Mamardashvili is contracted to Valencia for the next three seasons and has a release clause of £85m. He is said to have already rejected a move to Saudi Arabia. And his current employers are in no hurry to sell the star as their financial accounts are in good order.

Arne Slot

If the Reds do manage to land the player, they would hand him a contract worth £65,000 per week. But he would have to bide his time to pull on the Liverpool shirt as he wouldn’t usurp Alisson until 2026, a year before the Brazilian’s contract at Anfield expires.

The Merseyside giants would instead send Mamardashvili to Bournemouth on loan for two seasons, a proposal that he has already accepted.

The Cherries are also interested in snapping up the Georgian, with Manchester United said to be in the running for his signature as well.

Liverpool are said to have had three bids rejected by Valencia, with Mamardashvili already agreeing terms at Anfield.

The shot-stopper started in goal for his club on Saturday as his side were defeated 2-1 by Barcelona in their opening La Liga match. He has been Valencia’s starting keeper for the last two-and-a-half seasons after ousting Jasper Cillessen.

Liverpool are yet to secure any summer signings after Arne Slot succeeded Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout ahead of the new campaign. The Reds got their Premier League season off to a winning start on Saturday as they defeated Ipswich 2-0 at Portman Road, with Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah finding the back of the net.
