Reports in Spain claim Liverpool forward Luis Diaz has agreed to join Manchester City. However, sources in the UK are playing down any talk of a deal being done between the two clubs.

The forward has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain among his suitors. However, the European giants may not be the only side interested in the winger.

Spanish news outlet El Chiringuito TV claim City have opened talks with Diaz over a potential deal and the Colombia international has already agreed to sign a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s side are scouring the market for attacking reinforcements following the sale of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid, and Diaz has reportedly been shortlisted as a potential option.

It is claimed City are willing to pay £59.8million to acquire the services of the former FC Porto star, though reports in the UK suggest no bid has yet been made.

If the 27-year-old was to depart Anfield, Liverpool could attempt to reopen talks with Newcastle over a deal for Anthony Gordon.

Diaz is capable of playing on either wing but has thrived on the left on Merseyside, which may allow Phil Foden to be used more regularly as a No. 10 – a role that the England international believes that he is best suited to.

Any deal for Diaz is not expected to prevent City from pursuing an out-and-out striker in the final fortnight of the transfer window though, with Guardiola hopeful of acquiring the services of an alternative option to Erling Haaland in the final third to allow for squad rotation.

City are expected to be busy in the final few weeks of the transfer window, with several stars expected to depart to raise funds and also ensure that Guardiola has a suitable size squad to work with.

Out-of-favour midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been heavily linked with a host of clubs already this month, with Everton, Fulham and Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town interested in acquiring his services. Joao Cancelo’s future also remains unresolved despite Barcelona’s desire to re-sign him following last season’s successful loan deal.
