Express Sport brings you all the latest
With the 2024/25 Premier League season starting in just two weeks, clubs are looking to accelerate their transfer plans ahead of what promises to be an incredibly competitive campaign at both ends of the table.
Manchester United and Chelsea both overseen major rebuilds this summer and they have therefore been the busiest of the ‘Big Six’ clubs so far. North London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal have also dipped into the market as well with defensive acquisitions, with Spurs now hoping to hijack their neighbours’ pursuit of Dominic Solanke.
Though not all top clubs are strengthening at this stage as Liverpool have yet to make a move and Manchester City have only signed Savinho. The Reds are set to attack the market late, with speculation continuing to circulate over a move for Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon after a reported move for him broke down earlier in the window.
Express Sport provides LIVE transfer updates and gossip below…
Newcastle hoping to fend off Liverpool approach with new Gordon deal
Newcastle are reportedly set to offer Anthony Gordon a new contract when he returns from his extended break.
The winger has been heavily linked with Liverpool in recent weeks, with an agreement said to have been in place for him to join the club as part of a deal which would have seen Joe Gomez join the Magpies.
However, sales elsewhere meant Newcastle were not forced to offload the England international to raise funds, and they are now working towards retaining his services.
The Athletic report that the Magpies intend on offering Gordon a new deal upon his return from his extended holiday in an attempt to fend off interest from Liverpool.
Tottenham plot Arsenal transfer hijack
Tottenham are reportedly considering a move for Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke as they scour the market for a new No. 9.
The 26-year-old struck 19 goals in the Premier League last season and impressed with his hold-up play and clinical finishing, which saw him work his way onto the shortlisted names of striker targets at Arsenal.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Tottenham are also interested in Solanke, although no formal bid has been submitted yet.
Spurs are keen to bolster their forward ranks as soon as possible and a bid in excess of £50m would test the resolve of the Cherries.
Newcastle strike £15m agreement
Newcastle have reportedly struck a deal to sign William Osula from Sheffield United.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Magpies have reached an agreement worth a total of £15million for the striker – with Eddie Howe’s side paying an initial fee of £10m to acquire the services of the 20-year-old.
Osula is keen to join Newcastle and now the ‘final details’ are being ironed out.
Fulham lodge £23m bid for McTominay
Fulham have reportedly submitted a third bid for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.
According to Manchester Evening News, the new offer is worth £23million, which still falls short of the Red Devils’ valuation.
Erik ten Hag views McTominay as an ‘important squad player’ and would like to retain the services of the midfielder, but the Scotland international’s contract expires next summer and a sale may therefore be required if the higher powers at the club are not willing to offer the academy graduate a new deal.
United are therefore willing to part ways with the McTominay if they receive an offer in the region of £30m.
