Sofyan Amrabat could put a dent in Man United’s summer plans.
Failed Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat could come back to haunt former boss Erik ten Hag as early as this summer.
Amrabat endured a torrid loan spell at Old Trafford last season, notching up just 30 appearances across all competitions but was largely a fringe option.
It proved an expensive deal too, with United paying Serie A outfit Fiorentina over £8million to take Amrabat on loan for the season.
United did boast a £21m option-to-buy in the Moroccan’s contract, but any chance of the Red Devils making Amrabat’s switch permanent was quickly ruled out.
Instead, Amrabat returned to Fiorentina at the end of the campaign, but his next move could stunt United’s transfer business this summer.
That’s because, reports in Italy suggest Inter Milan are eyeing up a move for the United flop, with Fiorentina keen to take Kristjan Asllani in the opposite direction.
It could present problems for the United hierarchy because they too have been rumoured to be taking a closer look at Albanian international Asllani.
The report claims Asllani is of ‘interest’ to the Premier League giants, who themselves would be prepared to offer up an unwanted player in return.
Man United passed up the chance to sign Sofyan Amrabat on a permanent deal.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is expected to be on the move this summer, given the United right-back is out of favour and has just one year left on his current deal, United were considering offering him in exchange for Asllani.
There had been talk about a potential swap deal involving Wan-Bissaka and current Inter ace Denzel Dumfries, but that too has been waved away by the Italian champions.
However, if the proposal from Fiorentina proves more attractive and Amrabat does pen a move to Milan, it would be yet more misery caused for Ten Hag by the midfielder.
Elsewhere, The Telegraph reported United are expected to step up their search for full-back reinforcements in the coming days and weeks.

As well as doubts surrounding Wan-Bissaka, questions over Tyrell Malacia’s future have emerged after the injury-ridden left-back was left out of the squad for United’s tour of the United States.
While Luke Shaw managed only 12 appearances in the Premier League for United last season, with the England international’s fitness record a concern heading into the new season.
Noussair Mazraoui is named as a potential option for the 20-time English champions – the Bayern Munich defender is an international team-mate of ex-United man Amrabat, but West Ham are thought to be leading the race for his signature.
Just three weeks remain between now and the start of the Premier League season, with United kicking the campaign off at home to Fulham.
