Kyle Walker had England fans on the edge of their seats early into the nation’s Euro 2024 final with Spain – appearingly injured after coming together with Luis de la Fuente. The 34-year-old was caught out of position by Fabian Ruiz on the right-hand side of the pitch – lunging towards the midfielder with pace to intercept a pass.
A mis-timed tackle on the PSG star would see Walker flying towards the de la Fuente’s box, before clashing with the 63-year-old’s right leg. in the moments after the incident, Walker looked to be injured while momentarily grasping at his hamstring – something that the BBC commentary team picked up on.
Guy Mowbray said: “This is not what England need. Kyle Walker needs to have some treatment – something’s tightened up,” while Alan Shearer added: “He comes sliding in there doesn’t he on Fabian Ruiz.”
Mowbray sarcastically added: “He’s fouled Luis de la Fuente! He can’t get a free-kick for that. He’s still hobbling along but he’s coming back into the box to help his team defend this corner. He’s in a bit of pain.”
Any worries that Walker and his teammates had would quickly be shaken off, as moments later, he would burst forward into Spain’s box after receiving a pass from Bukayo Saka, winning a corner for his efforts.
