England boss Gareth Southgate could call upon Conor Gallagher in the Euro 2024 final
Chelsea may be able to claw in more money for Conor Gallagher this summer if the midfielder returns to Stamford Bridge as a European Championship winner. The 24-year-old has featured in five games at Euro 2024 and could be involved once again when Gareth Southgate’s England take on Spain in Sunday’s final.
Gallagher has impressed in a Chelsea shirt over the last year and started 37 Premier League matches under Mauricio Pochettino last season.
But he looks likely to be offloaded over the summer as Chelsea attempt to avoid falling foul of profit and sustainability rules.
Gallagher was tipped to leave Chelsea last summer but eventually stayed put. He only has one year remaining on his current deal, however, and a departure would hugely benefit his current employers financially.
Because Gallagher came through the Chelsea academy, the Blues would be able to bank his entire transfer fee as instant profit should they move him on, which would allow them to spend more money on incoming transfers.
In contrast, if they were to sell a player who hasn’t come through their academy, Chelsea would have to spread the profit over the entire period of his next contract.

Chelsea will be desperate to secure a premium fee in exchange for Gallagher, with Aston Villa and Tottenham said to be the frontrunners to sign him.
But if he stars in the Euro 2024 final, Blues chiefs would be able to use his success to negotiate a bit of extra cash as part of the deal.
Chelsea could argue that the players’ suitors would be getting someone who has proven that he can make a different at the pinnacle of the game in the high pressure moments. And with Gallagher highly regarded by England boss Southgate, he will be confident of making it onto the pitch against Spain.

Chelsea ace Conor Gallagher has featured in five matches at Euro 2024
Earlier this summer, Chelsea icon Joe Cole discussed Gallagher’s future as he spoke to talkSPORT. But the former winger implored his ex-employers to keep the midfield dynamo in west London as he explained: “Conor Gallagher can’t leave. I know there are issues financially but Conor Gallagher has been brilliant, from start to finish.
“Everyone has turned up in the last few weeks but Conor, you see a great player when he is playing in a struggling team. Conor was still there, captain as well. I think it is imperative that the club keeps him.”
Chelsea will need to decide whether they accept an offer for Gallagher before the summer transfer closes at the end of next month. The Blues are set to get their Premier League campaign underway in mid-August when they host champions Manchester City.
