Mason Greenwood is expected to leave United this summer
Arsenal could scupper Manchester United’s plans to offload Mason Greenwood this summer by entertaining talks with Olympique Marseille for Eddie Nketiah.
The Gunners are expected to splash the cash this summer, but their overhaul has been put on pause as there is a desire to offload players before welcoming new arrivals.
Along with Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith Rowe, Nketiah has also been put up for sale by Arsenal, and the striker has been linked with countless Premier League sides since the 2023/23 season concluded.
The Englishman also has interest in Europe, with Foot Mercato reporting that Marseille are among the clubs to register an interest in acquiring his services. The Ligue 1 outfit are already said to have held positive preliminary talks with Nketiah’s entourage.
The Gunners star is also interested in joining Marseille, in what could be a hammer blow to United’s transfer window.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side have been pushing to sign Greenwood over the past few days, with United keen to offload their academy product as soon as possible – albeit with a sizeable sell-on clause.

Eddie Nketiah is expected to leave Arsenal this summer
It is claimed that an agreement is close between the two teams, though the emergence of Marseille’s interest in Nketiah may throw a spanner into the works. If Arsenal are willing to offload their No. 14 for a lower fee than what United are quoting for Greenwood and with less sizable clauses then the French side may opt to abandon their current transfer plan.
It is unclear whether Marseille are in the market for two strikers this summer, though major exits may be required if they are to secure the signature of the aforementioned English duo.

United are hoping to sell Greenwood this summer following his successful loan stint at Getafe, who are keen to retain his services for another campaign. The 22-year-old has not featured for the Red Devils since he was arrested in January 2022 on charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. All charges, which he denied, were dropped in February 2023 but United have deemed a sale the best option for all parties.
Several European outfits are keen on Greenwood and may pounce if Marseille opt not to wrap up negotiations with United, though Arsenal’s valuation of Nketiah could be the deciding factor in that decision.
