Normal-strength beer at England vs Slovakia after Uefa U-turn

Normal-strength beer will now be served to England fans at their round-of-16 Euro 2024 encounter with Slovakia on Sunday after a Uefa U-turn.

Officials from European football’s governing body, along with local police, had originally decided to again impose the restrictions that applied for England’s opening game against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen, selling beer with an alcohol volume of only 2.8 per cent for a fixture that was considered “high risk”.

However, that decision sparked considerable frustration among the local council and the Football Supporters’ Association, who believed that England fans were being unfairly targeted.
