Team Nigeria Review – 2024 African Athletics Championships Day 5 – MAKING OF CHAMPIONS

Alaba Akintola carried the responsibility of being the only Nigerian athlete, male or female, to compete in the 200m at the 2024 African Championships in Douala.

He ran in Heat 6 of the event on Day 5 of the championships and won comfortably with a time of 20.94 seconds, despite a slight headwind of -0.1 m/s, finishing ahead of Cameroonian champion, Claude Itoungue. 

Three hours later in the semifinals, Akintola crossed the line in 3rd place with a time of 20.79s and qualified for Wednesday’s final from one of the nonautomatic spots. 

Another Nigerian in action on the day was Alexander Chukwukelu who competed in the 100m Hurdles final and placed 7th with a time of 14.26s.

Victoria Kparika who represented Nigeria in the women’s javelin throw, finished 6th with a distance of 49.15m.
