Arsenal are keen to sign a midfielder who compliments Declan Rice
Arsenal are reportedly keen to sign a holding midfielder this summer to bring the very best out of Declan Rice. According to The Athletic, the Gunners have ruled that they believe there are some ‘attractive options‘ in the No 6 market this summer, and they could even be conducting their own scouting missions at Euro 2024. Express Sport takes a look at who could be of interest to Mikel Arteta’s side…
Amadou Onana (Belgium)
Everton playmaker Onana has made it no secret that he is keen to join a top club this summer, publicly stating that he hopes that his performances for Belgium will attract suitors. The playmaker can play as a No. 6 and as a No. 8, and his powering physique could prove attractive to Arsenal given they are building a tall, strong side.
Joao Neves (Portugal)
Top clubs around Europe are keeping tabs on Neves, and Arsenal are among those to have travelled to Portugal to watch the Benfica starlet in action.
The 19-year-old shone last season for Roger Schmidt’s side and equally impressive displays in Germany could see him attract big-money offers from several top clubs.

Morten Hjulmand (Denmark)
Sporting star Hjulmand was linked with a move to the Premier League previously, and he could put himself back among the targets of top clubs whilst representing Denmark at the Euros. The 24-year-old is capable at both ends of the pitch and has showcased he has the work ethic and stamina to thrive in Arteta’s system during his time working under Ruben Amorim.

Joshua Kimmich (Germany)
Although not strictly a midfielder, Kimmich has thrived in central areas previously and could be shortlisted as a potential cut-price option as a No. 6 for the Gunners. The Germany international is among a host of stars who have been put in the shop window by Bayern Munich following the arrival of Vincent Kompany, and the Euros presents the 29-year-old with the perfect opportunity to prove to potential suitors that he is fit and not regressing. Playing in an inverted role under Julian Nagelsmann will also catch the eye of Arsenal given that Arteta is keen for his fullbacks to step into central areas when required to create overloads and dictate the tempo of matches.
