Bastian Schweinsteiger was told to keep his pants on during ARD’s Euro 2024 broadcast
Former Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger was jokingly told to ‘keep your pants on’ during a live broadcast of Spain’s Euro 2024 clash with Croatia. The German football icon was part of broadcaster ARD’s coverage of the Group B match.
Schweinsteiger was a guest on Germany’s Next Top Model show last Thursday. During the programme, model and presenter Heidi Klum pulled his trousers off.
The 39-year-old, who had the best spell of his career at Bayern Munich, was wearing football shorts underneath. ARD presenter Esther Sedlaczek joked about his appearance on the programme with her opening monologue at the Olympic Stadium, which will host the Euro 2024 final next month.
She opened the show by saying: “Welcome from the final stadium of this European Championship, the Berlin Olympic Stadium. I’m so happy that Basti made it back here from the catwalk. Yes, he had to be there.”
Schweinsteiger responded: “Some have the opportunity to perform there. Some don’t.”
Sedlaczek then joked: “Yes, that’s right. You’re keeping your pants on today!”
Schweinsteiger, who laughed at the gag, made 35 appearances for Man Utd between 2015 and 2017. He recently revealed that Jose Mourinho had forced him to train with the academy team after deciding that he was not part of his plans.
The midfielder, who went on to join LA Galaxy, had suffered with knee issues during his time at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Schweinsteiger would have been delighted with Germany’s start to Euro 2024. Julian Nagelsmann’s side smashed a hugely disappointing Scotland 5-1 in Munich.

Scotland boss Steve Clarke was asked how his players felt after the defeat, and snapped back: “What do you think the mood was? Disappointed, they feel as if we’ve let ourselves down. We’re better than that.
“We’re a better team than we showed tonight and hopefully we can show that in the next two games. Tonight was always going to be a tough game. We need four points from the next two games and hopefully we can focus on that.”
Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann suggested that he expected more from Scotland. He said: “It was only the first step but it was a very good one. We can build on this and we’re very happy. I was kind of surprised that Scotland weren’t that aggressive in the first 20 minutes.”
