Leny Yoro and Jonathan David will be allowed to leave French club Lille this summer, putting Liverpool on red alert ahead of a possible transfer. Both players have been strongly linked with moves to Anfield this year.

Teenage defender Yoro is a target for several of Europe’s top clubs. The Frenchman enjoyed a sensational breakthrough campaign last term, having already made his debut in 2022 aged 16.

Real Madrid and Manchester United are likely to rival Liverpool for Yoro’s signature. According to the Metro, the Reds followed both clubs in expressing an interest in the France U21 centre-back.

Liverpool have also been linked with Canadian forward David. Lille president Olivier Letang has confirmed that both players will be allowed to find new clubs this summer, with the Ligue 1 side set to make a major profit.

“We have two players who have an exit voucher, Leny and Jonathan,” Letang told reporters on Wednesday. “They will be allowed to leave.”

Liverpool are likely to enter the market for a new centre-back this summer, despite the emergence of academy graduate Jarell Quansah. The 18-year-old Yoro would provide further depth for new head coach Arne Slot.

Joel Matip is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the month, leaving Slot with a vacancy in the position. Yoro is regarded as one of Europe’s most highly-rated young defenders and would be an exceptional coup for the Reds if they manage to secure a transfer.

Meanwhile, David scored 26 goals across all competitions last season, including 19 in Ligue 1. Liverpool have been linked with the 24-year-old in a bid to improve their forward line.

There remains uncertainty over the futures of Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah. Diaz is reportedly a target for Paris Saint-Germain, while Salah will attract attention from Saudi Arabia – although Liverpool expect him to stay for another year.

Liverpool have made huge structural changes in the aftermath of Jurgen Klopp’s departure. New boss Slot has taken on the role of head coach, as opposed to the ‘manager’ title held by his predecessor.

Former sporting directors Michael Edwards and Julian Ward have both returned to Liverpool to take up roles within the structure of owners Fenway Sports Group. Richard Hughes has joined from Bournemouth as the club’s new sporting director.
