BURTON ALBION AGREE TERMS TO SIGN ELLIOT WATT

BURTON Albion can announce that an agreement has been made for the signing of Elliot Watt from Salford City, subject to EFL approval.

The 24-year-old has opted to join the Brewers following the expiry of his contract with the Ammies, having made 39 appearances in all competitions last season.

The former Scotland U21 international spent his youth career at Blackburn, Liverpool, Preston North End and Wolves, signing his first professional contract at Molineux in 2017.

Watt’s first experience of EFL football was during a loan spell at Carlisle United, before he made a permanent move to Bradford City, spending two seasons with The Bantams.

The deep-lying midfielder has now made over 180 EFL appearances and was named in the League Two Team of the Season for the 2022–23 season.

On signing, Watt said: “I’m buzzing to be here. From the first call that was put into me about the plans and what the new owners want to do here, it brings me nothing but excitement.

“I’ve had a really good phone call with the new Head Coach and with the Sporting Director. Every person that I’ve spoken to about the club, the conversations we’ve had have been really positive.

“There’s a lot of change going on at the club this summer and we need to keep our feet on the ground, but who knows where we can end up if we all pull together in the right direction, so it’s a really exciting time.”

Bendik Hareide, Burton Albion Sporting Director, said: “We’re delighted to secure the signing of Elliot. He fits our profile, and we believe that he can be a valuable asset both on and off the pitch.

“He has proven leadership skills and has worn the captain’s armband during his time at Salford. We’ve watched a lot of him, and he consistently produces impressive performances. We believe that it’s a really good start to our summer transfer business.”
