Jurgen Klopp spoke about Arne Slot earlier this week
Jurgen Klopp has continued Brendan Rodgers’ trend of wishing his Liverpool successor well personally by arranging a chat with the new manager to properly hand over the reins of the club. The German revealed earlier this week that he had spoken with Arne Slot ahead of his move to the Anfield dugout from Feyenoord.
Klopp revealed in January that he would leave Liverpool at the end of the season as he was ‘running out of energy’ on Merseyside, and the months since have been nothing short of emotional for supporters and the ex-Borussia Dortmund manager.
The 56-year-old was offered the chance to say his final farewell to Liverpool supporters on Tuesday night as the M&S Bank Arena hosted ‘An Evening with Jurgen Klopp’, with thousands of fans packing into the venue to say their goodbyes.
Klopp was reduced to tears on the night as his name rang around the arena, though it wasn’t all sadness for supporters. Their beloved manager also revealed that he had spoken with Slot ahead of the changing of the guard at Anfield.
He said: “He’s a good guy. It was a very good talk. I spoke pretty much with everybody of the new leadership team and he’s a good manager, a really good manager.”
Klopp leaving on his own terms has allowed the German to bow out with his head held high, whilst also allowing the higher powers at Liverpool to line up a replacement so that there is a seamless transition over the summer.

It also ensured that Klopp could chat with Slot about the squad that he was inheriting, in the same way that he spoke with ex-Reds boss Rodgers following his move to the Premier League in 2015. Speaking about the interaction, Rodgers said: “I remember when Klopp first got the job and we sat down and we spoke.
“We sat and had a chat at my house. He’s a good guy. Whatever help he needed going into the job, I was there for that.”

Slot will be hoping that he receives similar support from Klopp during his debut season in England, and the Dutchman has talked up how it is a ‘privilege’ to succeed the Liverpool legend.
He said: “I am already privileged but then I would be really very privileged and the fun or funny thing is that I succeed a trainer (Klopp), perhaps in terms of status, or maybe I am sure one who has reached much bigger status at the club where he has worked for the past nine years.”
