The Carabao Cup semi-final draw will take place this evening
Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle United have secured their spots in the Carabao Cup semi-finals, with the draw for the two-legged affair set to take place tonight.
Tonight’s final last-eight tie is between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United and will kick off at 8pm. The draw will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event following the match between Ange Postecoglou and Ruben Amorim’s teams.
Provided the match does not go to penalties, the semi-final draw will take place around 10.15pm.
The first leg of the semi-finals is scheduled for the week of January 8, with the return fixtures in the week of February 5. The final is set for Wembley on March 16.
On Thursday night, Liverpool secured their spot in the semis with a 2-1 defeat of Southampton.
Darwin Nunez scored for Liverpool in their defeat of Southampton
Arne Slot, serving a one-match touchline ban, gave 17-year-old Trey Nyoni his first start against the Premier League’s bottom side. Despite stormy conditions, Darwin Nunez put the Reds ahead before Harvey Elliott doubled their lead.
Cameron Archer managed to pull one back for Saints, who are currently under the interim management of Simon Rusk.
Elsewhere Newcastle made a quick start as they downed Brentford at St James’ Park, with Sandro Tonali scoring twice for Eddie Howe’s team in the first half against Thomas Frank’s weary travellers.
Arsenal overcame Crystal Palace 3-2 in a thriller in which Gabriel Jesus scored a second-half hat-trick.
Jean Philippe Mateta initially gave Palace the lead at the Emirates, but Jesus, who hadn’t found the back of the net at the Emirates for a year, scored an impressive treble to steer Mikel Arteta’s squad into the semi-finals.
However, ex-Gunner Eddie Nketiah did manage to score a late consolation goal to reduce the arrears.
